“The world we have created is a product of our thinking; it cannot be changed without changing our thinking…No problem can be solved from the same consciousness that created it. We must learn to see the world anew”– Albert Einstein
Welcome to my website
A little about me and why I’m here…
I honestly don’t know all that this blog will become, but I would like to thank you for checking it out. I hope you find it enjoyable and worthy of a return visit.
I’m merely a “tech guy” living in Morehead, KY. Once a dad, but never a father, I’m a single parent to a 16-year-old niece that has been with me since she was six years old. Time refused to wait, though sometimes I try to convince myself that it did, that I am still barely into my thirties, and that I’m just now getting custody of her. But my hairline tells a different story, along with the ever-increasing white specks throughout my beard and the realization that she is no longer a child and has grown to be a young woman (to be fair, the hair started going when I was 21). With accepting this realization comes admitting that my time on this earth is limited and that sooner more likely than later I will have to bid her farewell. This acceptance doesn’t come easily.
John Dewey said, “Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.” If this is true then I have been blessed with one hell of an education that began long before I started college and continues on today. A lot of this education has been forced upon me but much of it has also been of my own doing. I’ve always had many interests and I tend to get bored when life becomes repetitive and monotonous. So, in these times I try to enjoy the outdoors, spend time on a hobby, or take the time to learn something new.
I remember reading during my youth that the capacity of the human brain has never been filled. So, seemingly, there is no limit to the amount of learning that can take place over one’s lifetime. That fascinated me then, and as a “tech guy” who deals with multiple types of digital storage in my work daily, it still seems remarkable today. I can attest, however, that I am in no danger of exceeding my brain’s capacity even with my extensive “education,” and I believe my brain size to be more than adequate. But I do enjoy reading, learning, and experiencing new things, so I hope to fill as much of its remaining capacity as possible within the time I have left.
I have always enjoyed writing to some extent, but the inspiration for that isn’t always consistent, so it’s never been a craft that could be a career path for me. If somehow I could reach the necessary level of skill for that, I have doubts that my imagination could keep me working for long. So I write randomly about various topics, and sometimes those writings get finished, and sometimes they stay hidden away in a folder on my computer until I decide to revisit them.
Within this blog, the chances are good that I won’t write anything that will leave you in awe, and it’ll probably be rare that you are even impressed. It will likely be a collection of thoughts or musings, with many randomnesses thrown in. However, I do welcome your thoughts and the opportunity to partake in something that I feel has become far too uncommon in the world we live in — simply, a conversation.
So welcome, it’s nice to meet you; come in, let’s talk…
